Choosing Our Builder and House Design

For the design and construction of our home, we chose McDonald Jones. We wanted a trusted and proven builder that could provide us with the quality and freedom needed to bring our first home to fruition.

We fell for the Lyndhurst Executive design from the "Stuart Everett" range as it provided the perfect balance of open plan living but still having a welcoming homely feel.

Although we loved the original plans we still wanted to make the house our own. So we chose to Upgrade the original plans to the Lyndhurst 'Executive' design as we felt the altered layout suited us and the block better (and let's be honest we wanted the butler's pantry)

Keeping our steep frontage of the block that we love in mind we did not want to do major landscaping changes just to accommodate for the garage entry so we moved the garage entrance to the left face of the house adding 2 windows to the frontage of the house.
We also changed the Facade from the classic to the 'Dakota' (keeping in mind the altered garage orientation and deleting the left-hand corner brick stack)
We deleted the original single door entrance to the theater room and added double Lin1 glass sliding doors as we wanted to expand the open living feel while still being able to close off the room when required. To keep with the open living feel we added Bi-fold doors leading out to the alfresco to completely open the house up to the outdoors. This complements the double extended alfresco very nicely. We pushed the entire master suite back by half a meter to allow room for a fireplace after hand over (as most of our family is back in England ... yes it does get that cold in Australia)
To help with temperature control of aircon in summer and the fire in winter we added a cavity sliding door to the hallway leading to the spare bedrooms.
And finally, we added extra height to the ceiling raising it to 2.55m throughout the house. In addition to this, we added a coffer to the livingroom/ dinings room, theater, and the master bedroom. This is a feature we both always complimented in any show home we entered as it added an extra dimension to the room.
