Our final Home Design

Image
After the Selections appointment, We have our Final plans! After review of these plans, we signed the contract with McDonald Jones. Now it is the waiting game with the council to Get our Building approval. From other peoples experience, this can take up to 10 weeks here in Goulburn. Fingers crossed for a quick turn around. The only minor changes that were made to this plan is the position of the brick stack, as Mcdonald Jones changed their design plan. This is something we were happy with as it meant the addition of a bigger window to the 2nd bedroom with no extra charge. We can not wait to see these plans come to life. These plans include Sketches of the Kitchen, ensuite, Bathroom, Laundry and powder-room layouts:

Electrical Selections

Image
Tuesday 9th April 2019 This was our third and final Selections appointment. Doing the electricals was a good experience it really makes you think about the flow of the house. Where are you going to enter a room and want to turn on alight? are there multiple points in which you want to turn off a light? it was a nice way to start getting a feel for the house. We wanted the house to be done when moving in, we didn't want to have the build completed and then still have major work to do, so we decided to go ahead and get all the downlights we wanted so we didn't need to worry about electricians down the line. In the Ensuit, We added quad heat lamps with fully ducted extractor, prewire for 2 heated towel rails (we didn't fall for any of the ones Mcdonald |Jones had to offer and with the pre-wire, it really is a quick fix after hand over) In the main living/dining area, we did not want lights in the middle of the coffer so we added extra around the bulkhead and also ...

Internal Selections

Image
Tuesday 2nd April 2019 We did our Internal selections. We had done our research going into this appointment and had a strong idea of what we wanted so we found this appointment to be very enjoyable and loved getting the chance to completely make the house our own. Flooring- We really wanted a wooden floor but where hesitant as we know how easy it is to mark and scratch. We considered a wood effect tile (they look amazing) but didn't want such a cold floor for in winter. But we found a solution to our dilemma Hybrid laminex in Classic oak brown... it is scratch proof waterproof and looks and feels just like wood, with less maintenance needed. And after reading many reviews we were sold. this is throughout the house minus wet areas (which I'll get too) and the master suite and Theater room. In the Master and Theater rooms, we chose a mid pile Godfrey Hurst Eco+ Carpet in Quarry 716. Very soft and cozy and easy to clean if(when) something gets spilled. And in the wet ar...

Choosing Our Builder and House Design

Image
For the design and construction of our home, we chose McDonald Jones. We wanted a trusted and proven builder that could provide us with the quality and freedom needed to bring our first home to fruition. We fell for the Lyndhurst Executive design from the "Stuart Everett" range as it provided the perfect balance of open plan living but still having a welcoming homely feel.  Although we loved the original plans we still wanted to make the house our own. So we chose to Upgrade the original plans to the Lyndhurst 'Executive' design as we felt the altered layout suited us and the block better (and let's be honest we wanted the butler's pantry) Keeping our steep frontage of the block that we love in mind we did not want to do major landscaping changes just to accommodate for the garage entry so we moved the garage entrance to the left face of the house adding 2 windows to the frontage of the house. We also changed the Facade from the classic to the ...

The Beginning

Image
We officially bought our slice of Australia in December 2018, a 2000 square metre lot in Goulburn NSW. With a 33 metre frontage raised to a view of the tablelands in a quiet acreage estate, it was a perfect canvas for the type of home and lifestyle we wanted to live in.
